Cat age in human terms
Enter the cat's age into the calculator
If your cat were a human, how old would she be.
We've all asked ourselves this question. Cats usually mature before our eyes, and in the first years of life their development strongly resembles that of human children, but if your Exotic or Persian cat is already 3 or 4 years old. There are hundreds of methods for calculating cat's age, from stereotypical and folk to scientific and modern. Our calculator for converting cat years to human years works exclusively on scientifically proven theory.
Methods and formulas for calculating the age of cats
Folk formula for counting
There is an opinion that each cat year is equivalent to 7 human years. But even an inattentive owner understands that this formula does not work. A one-year-old Maine Coon is already ready to have kittens, should we say that our own children at 7 do not yet know where they come from. And a 10-year-old British Shorthair clearly does not look like a 70-year-old lady.
The opinion of scientists
The American Association of Veterinary Clinics in conjunction with the Association of Practicing Veterinarians based on research created a guideline in which the aging process of cats is noted. The logic of our calculator is based on these data, detailed information about the methodology can be found through the links above.
The main principles in converting the age of your pet to human
- Cats mature faster and age slower than humans.
- The first year of a cat's life is like 15 human years, the second is like 9 years. Each subsequent year is equivalent to 4 human years.
- Some cats mature faster than others. As with people, active cats who do not suffer from obesity age slower and live longer.
